Race Formats
Scratch: standard finish-line-based scoring (default race format unless otherwise specified)
Points: points are awarded three deep each time passing the finish line (5, 3, 1) and five deep on the final lap (9, 7, 5, 3, 1). Most points wins. Tie-breakers: most first-place finishes, most second-place finishes, most third-place finishes, and finally finishing position on the final lap. Points race format does not apply to C, M40+, and WDev fields, which are always scratch format.
Power points: same format as points race but points (5, 3, 1) are also available on each lap after the first at an intermediate sprint line in the park, in addition to finish-line scoring.

Our events are no longer sanctioned by USA Cycling, but we currently operate under existing USAC Category systems and naming conventions. Within that framework, the following principles apply:“Men’s Fields” are open to all racers: men, women, and non-binary racers who self-select to race in the Men’s field.
“Women’s Fields” are open to cis women, trans women, and non-binary athletes who self-select to race in the Women’s field.
Non-elite athletes (Categories 5, 4 & 3) may self select the field, within their USAC Category, that best fits with their gender identity, or that they feel is most athletically and socially appropriate for competitive purposes.
Elite athletes (Categories 2 & 1) may participate in the gendered field that they feel is most athletically appropriate, as determined by NABRA’s policy on Transgender Participation.
Women’s license holders may enter any Men’s field for which they are eligible by age & category.
Women’s license holders may enter lower M category fields as follows: (i) Category 4, 3 & 2 Women’s license holders may enter M fields that are up to one category lower than their own category, and (ii) Category 1 Women’s license holders may enter M fields up to two categories lower. For example, a W3 may enter a M3 or M4 race and a W1 may enter into a M1, M2 or M3 race.
Women’s license holders may enter M age group fields as follows: (i) W1 & W2 may enter Men’s Masters fields up to 10 years above their racing age, and (ii) W3 & W4 may enter Men’s Masters fields up to 20 years above their racing age.
CRCA Code of Conduct
Racing in Central Park is a privilege granted through our long-term partnership and collaboration with NYC Parks and the Central Park Conservancy. All participants must adhere to the following Code of Conduct to ensure the continuation of this privilege:
Riding in Central Park
Cyclists are subject to all laws, rules, and regulations governing Central Park at all times and shall act accordingly when using the Park. Cyclists shall not ride in the runner’s lane while racing or training in City Parks.
Group training rides should be limited to times when the Park is least crowded (i.e., weekdays before 8am and after 8pm/6pm in winter) and kept small (12 people max, as of 2017), taking into account nearby Park user traffic.
Cyclists must prioritize pedestrian safety at all times by yielding to pedestrians, whether in a crosswalk or not. Ride predictably, at a speed appropriate to the density of Park user traffic, and approach crosswalks and signal lights with caution and common sense. Cyclists should be alert, courteous and aware that the park is full of tourists and locals who do not know the rules. Understanding that all cyclists are subject to rules and regulations affecting Central Park at all times, teams agree to educate their members about this Code of Conduct.
Use front and rear lights before dawn and after dusk to ensure visibility. Cyclists should be extra vigilant throughout the south section of the Park, from West 72nd Street around to the bottom of Cat’s Paw Hill north of the Boathouse in order to maintain safety through this narrow and congested area.
In general, slower cyclists should stay left and faster cyclists should pass on the right when safe to do so. No cyclist may ride in the runner’s lane at any time. When passing any park users, allow several feet of clearance.
Cyclists shall carry valid identification.
Racing and Marshaling
My participation in CRCA races is a privilege that depends on the club’s ability to hold races, which could be jeopardized by the actions of participants and marshals, including myself.
Any failure to comply with this Code of Conduct, or the policies of CRCA, will subject me and/or my sub-team to disciplinary action, as determined by the CRCA Board, in accordance with the Club’s By-laws.
Treat club members, racers, officials, Park users, and the public with respect at all times.
Do my utmost to ensure the safety of racers and other Park users while marshaling.
Abide by the rules and rulings of CRCA, NABRA, and USADA, including rules regarding fair competition.
Follow the NYC Parks Department rules of conduct.
Any failure to comply with this code or any policies of the club will subject me and/or my sub-team to disciplinary action, as determined by the Board, subject to the requirements of the Club’s By-laws.
