CRCA Women's Development Series

CRCA is a leading advocate for women's racing and is welcoming to all W/T/F racers. As part of that effort the Club has supported a Women's Development Series for many years. This series spans both selected dates featured in the CRCA Club Race Series several of CRCA's Open Races, and our dedicated coaching and off the bike social events. All CRCA Women's Development Series races, including those held as part of the Central Park Club Series, are open to all non-CRCA member USAC licensed riders who pre-register via Bikereg.

Inquiries on the Women's Development Series should be directed to the Vice President of Rider Development.

Series Leader Competition

The series leader competition for Cat 4/5 Women in the Development Series will commence with the first club race, and continue throughout the entire season. The Cat 4/5 racers with the highest number of points throughout the series will wear the respective series leader jersey for each race, with the racer who has earned the highest cumulative number of points at the end of the season being named the overall series winner.

Points Overview

Racers earns points similar to the CRCA Boyd Cup Rules based on placing in the top 10 in their category but with different points for each place. Points earned are as follows:

  • 1st Place: 12 pts

  • 2nd Place: 10 pts

  • 3rd Place: 8 pts

  • 4th Place: 7 pts

  • 5th Place: 6 pts

  • 6th Place: 5 pts

  • 7th Place: 4 pts

  • 8th Place: 3 pts

  • 9th Place: 2 pts

  • 10th Place: 1 pt

Series Leader points are recorded by the Women’s Development Team and available to be viewed at any time on crca.net or by emailing womensdevelopment@crca.net.

Open Races

In Open Races where there are opportunities to race multiple fields, points will be awarded for the Women’s Cat 4/5 field only. Unlike the CRCA Boyd Cup rules however, Open Races do not count for double points in the Development Series.

Grant’s Tomb has women’s fields for Cat 4/5 and for Cat 3/4/5. Only the W Cat 4/5 results will count toward the race series.

Orchard Beach: the only race that will count towards series leader points is the Women’s Category 4 and Category 5 race. These categories race together and it is TBD whether they are scored separately. Updates on scoring will be here.

Bear Mountain Classic has fields for W Cat 5, and W Cat 4/5. ONLY the W Cat 4/5 race will count towards points in the series.

The Dave Jordan Central Park Classic field’s are TBD.

Club Racing

Club Race weeks where no Development Series Field exists, are not eligible for series leader competition points.

Upgrades

When a Cat 4 Racer upgrades to Cat 3, they keep their points in the Cat 4/5 competition, but are not able to earn any more points in the Cat 4/5 competition. If they are the current holder of the leader’s jersey for Cat 4/5, the jersey now goes to the next highest placed Cat 4/5 remaining in the Cat 4/5 field. If at the end of the season they are still in the lead in the Cat 4/5 competition - they will be crowned Series Winner.

Tie Break

In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken based on whichever racer achieved the higher placing in the most recent race.

End of Season Winners

Series Winners will be announced, and prizes awarded at the Women’s Development end of series celebration in September.

Points Overview

Racers earn 1 participation point per CRCA Development Series Specific Race, Open Race, Event or Coaching session they attend. Cat 4 racers can also earn 1 participation point when racing the Open Women’s Field at a CRCA Club race on weeks where clinics are held and restricted to Cat 5.

Each Participation point = one entry in the end of season raffle for participation prize, to be drawn at the series end celebration in September. Participation points are recorded by the Women’s Development Team and available to be viewed at any time on crca.net and by emailing womensdevelopment@crca.net. The more you participate – the better your chances of winning!

Open Races

In Open Races where there are opportunities to race multiple fields, racers can earn a maximum  total of 2 participation points, regardless of how many fields they race in (for example, Cat 5 racers are eligible to race in the Cat 4/5 and Cat 3/4/5 fields = 2 points. Cat 4 racers are eligible to race in the Cat 4/5 and Cat 3/4/5 fields = 2 participation points. This is to give every racer the chance to earn the same maximum number of points.

Coaching Sessions

Racers may count only one CRCA New Racer Skills session, however Racers may count as many non-new racer skills coaching sessions as they attend.

Club Racing

Club Race weeks where no Development Series Field exists, are not eligible for participation points, however we recommend racing these as they are great for experience!

Placing

Finish results do not have any effect on participation points, however racers must actually participate to earn points (i.e. no participation results will be given for racers who pre-register, but fail to race or attend event/session).
