CRCA Women's Development Series

CRCA is a leading advocate for women's racing. As part of that effort the Club has supported a Women's Development Series for many years. This series spans both selected dates featured in the CRCA Club Race Series several of CRCA's Open Races, and our dedicated coaching and off the bike social events. All CRCA Women's Development Series races, including those held as part of the Central Park Club Series, are open to all USAC licensed riders who pre-register via Bikereg.

Inquiries on the Women's Development Series should be directed to the Vice President of Rider Development.

Series Leader Competition

The series leader competition for Cat 4/5 and Cat 3 Women in the Development Series will commence with the first club race, March 3, and continue throughout the entire season. The Cat 4/5 and Cat 3 racers with the highest number of points throughout the series will wear the respective series leader jersey for each race, with the racer who has earned the highest cumulative number of points at the end of the season being named the overall series winner.

Points Overview

Racers earns points similar to the CRCA Boyd Cup Rules based on placing in the top 10 in their category but with different points for each place. Points earned are as follows:

  • 1st Place:  12 pts
  • 2nd Place:  10 pts
  • 3rd Place:  8 pts
  • 4th Place:  7 pts
  • 5th Place:  6 pts
  • 6th Place:  5 pts
  • 7th Place:  4 pts
  • 8th Place:  3 pts
  • 9th Place:  2 pts
  • 10th Place:  1 pt

Series Leader points are recorded by the Women’s Development Team and available to be viewed at any time on crca.net or by emailing womensdevelopment@crca.net.

Open Races

In Open Races where there are opportunities to race multiple fields, points will be awarded based on results in the Cat 3/4/5 field, or the Cat 4/5 (for the Cat 4 series) and then the Cat 2/3/4 (for the Cat 3 series) only. For purposes of the CRCA Development Series leaders competition only, Cat 3 and Cat 4/5 racers will be scored separately in combined fields.  This does not reflect the individual race overall finishing place (i.e., if you are a Cat 4 who finished 7th overall in a Cat 3/4/5 field, with 6 Cat 3 racers in front of you, your result for the race is still 7th, however as the highest placed Cat 4/5, you will earn 12 points towards the Cat 4/5 Development Series Leader competition). Unlike the CRCA Boyd Cup rules however, Open Races do not count for double points in the Development Series.

The Dave Jordan Central Park Classic has a field for Cat 1/2/3/4 only, and so no points for this race will count towards the Series Leader Competitions, or the Participation Competition.

Bear Mountain Classic has fields for Cat 5, and Cat 3/4 and so for this race only, the top five Cat 4 and top five Cat 5 finishers will be awarded points towards the Cat 4/5 series leader competition.

Mixed Fields

Where the Development Series Park Race is a Cat 3/4/5 field - For purposes of the CRCA Development Series leaders competition only, Cat 3 and Cat 4/5 racers will be scored separately in this field.  This does not reflect the individual race overall finishing place (i.e., if you are a Cat 4 who finished 7th overall, with 6 Cat 3 racers in front of you, your result for the race is still 7th, however as the highest placed Cat 4, you will earn 12 points towards the Cat 4/5 Development Series Leader competition).

Club Racing

Club Race weeks where no Development Series Field exists, are not eligible for series leader competition points.

Upgrades

When a Cat 4 Racer upgrades to Cat 3, they keep their points in the Cat 4/5 competition, but do not carry over any points to the Cat 3 competition, and are not able to earn any more points in the Cat 4/5 competition. If they are the current holder of the leader’s jersey for Cat 4/5, the jersey now goes to the next highest placed Cat 4/5 remaining in the Cat 4/5 field. If at the end of the season they are still in the lead in the Cat 4/5 competition - they will be crowned Series Winner.

When a Cat 3 racer upgrades to Cat 2, (and therefore is ineligible for the remainder of the Development Series) if they are the current holder of the leaders jersey for Cat 3, the jersey now goes to the next highest placed Cat 3 remaining in the Cat 3 field. They will retain their points in the Cat 3 competition. If at the end of the season they are still in the lead in the Cat 3 competition - they will be crowned Series Winner.

Tie Break

In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken based on whichever racer achieved the higher placing in the most recent race.

Picking Up the Jersey

Series leaders will be contacted by the Women’s Development Team prior to the next race, and will be given instructions on how to pick up the Series Leaders Jersey. Series Leader Jerseys must be worn in the next race. If the current leader is not racing the next race, the jersey may be worn by the next highest placed racer in the standings for that field.
