CRCA Events Update - COVID-19 Guidance

CRCA Members,

We hope everyone is still holding up well and able to safely enjoy some summer sunshine.

CRCA Events Continued Pause

In light of unchanging position by NYC Parks on event permits in NYC to date, and new guidance applicable to amateur sports & recreation events in New York State available here, CRCA will continue to hold off on all in-person events until we receive updated guidance from local, state and national governing agencies.

We wish we could provide better or more concrete news regarding when or whether we might be able to resume events in some form before the end of the 2020 season. That said, given the recent claw back of certain re-opening initiatives in NYC, our assumption is that unless there is some significant change with respect to COVID-19 treatment/prevention, we will be unable to hold races or other events in a manner that ensures the safety of all members, staff, volunteers and other park users, while maintaining the quality of experience to which our members are accustomed. At our last Board Meeting, we discussed the likelihood of providing our Members a roll-over of membership fees paid to the 2021 CRCA Racing Season. More details will follow on that.

No Team/Group Rides in Central Park

Further, we want to remind Members of our current policy regarding prohibition of team/group rides within Central Park, where our Members are highly visible, and park space is limited due to increased summer crowds. Given the minimum 6 ft distance and mask wearing guidance, even as applicable to outdoor recreational events issued by our local and state agencies, we don’t believe it is practical to practice safe group riding in Central Park during open park hours.

Riding/Racing Elsewhere

Regarding your personal decision to race outside of NYC or ride with others outside of Central Park, we urge Members to exercise good judgment and follow guidance issued by applicable authorities. We remind folks that the decision to ride or race is an individual decision that should be carefully considered based on each individual’s circumstances, such as personal health, employment, mitigation of risk, family/living situation, and geographic location. If you plan to travel out of state to race, note that many states now have travel restrictions applicable to individuals traveling from high COVID-19 risk locations, a status which NYC retains, and New York now has its own travel/quarantine requirements for those entering NY from certain jurisdictions. Please do your research well ahead of scheduled travel so you can ensure compliance and safety for yourself and others. In general, please be thoughtful about the decisions you are making, have candid communication with folks you come into close contact with, consider your impact on others, and don’t rush to judgement on another person’s decisions.

We thank you all for your patience and cooperation during this time. We will aim to update you as soon as we have any new information.

Be well,

CRCA Board
